This novel is non-fiction. It's not for the faint of heart. Private Andrew Jackson Johnson was a Civil War soldier. He served in the Confederate States Army (CSA). As you read his story, you will march, walk, eat, sleep, and fight with this warrior. You will know the horror of killing the man in front of you just to have another step up and attempt to take your life. After the fight and as darkness descends, you will hear the screams of the dying as they lay on the bloody battlefield. However, you cannot assist the wounded until the battle ends and one side retreats. In many conflicts, this took days, and the injured slowly died in the most agonizing way. Andrew fought in some of the bloodiest battles recorded in the Civil War. He describes them in detail. This man fought for four years before being shot. He was home recuperating when the south surrendered. Private Andrew Jackson Johnson was my great-great-grandfather. Although he died before I was born, I want to honor him with this book and acknowledge my pride in being one of his descendants.
